A sharp knife is an indispensable tool in the kitchen. Having a reliable sharp knife at hand will make cooking a lot more fun and easy, and food more delicious and pretty. Even the best knives will dull from the moment you put them to use. Maintenance is essential to keep your knife performing consistently.

Do you want to know everything about steels, burrs, shapes, geometry, stones, and sharpening techniques? Come and learn from Tim from Dōguya. With his guidance, you will learn how to sharpen a knife using Japanese whetstone.

During this afternoon Tim will take us through;

14:00-14:15 INTRO: Welcome drink and a quick hello
14:15 (approx 30-45 mins) PART 1: Theory; background and basics of knife sharpening with Japanese whetstone
14:45 (approx 30 mins) PART 2: Practice; you get to try it out for yourself
15:15 (approx 15-30 mins) PART 3: Test & Q&A; we put the newly sharpened knives to the test while having a group chat
16:15ish WRAP-UP: If you want to buy any Dōguya or Fermentary, now’s your chance.

When: Sunday, November 24th, January 12th or February 9th. 14:00-16:30 at the Fermentary (Zonneplein 19)

  • The workshop starts at 14:00. If you expect to arrive late then please let us know, and we will of course try to catch you up as well as possible, but since some participants might need to leave on time it wouldn't be fair to postpone the start time. 

  • Can't make it for any reason? Your ticket can be changed or refunded if you cancel 5 days in advance. This timeline is set due to the required preparations for the workshop. 

  • If we do not reach the minimum required participants, then the workshop might need to be rescheduled.

  • We reserve the right to cancel the workshop at any time.
